No longer are we in the age of Zoom, an introvert’s paradise. This is the end of times for entirely virtual learning, as classes have returned to in-person education for the majority of those on Grounds. With the fall semester now more than a month in, one may begin to wonder what the hell they are doing with their life. Why are they going to school? Why did they pick the classes they did? Why did they completely drain their flex dollars by going to Starbucks on an almost daily basis? There are lots of questions, and I certainly do not have the answers for them. The reason for that? I am a second-year student. I do not know anything. Seriously.

How do you self-care? For most people, including myself, self-care entails just letting go. After a long week of constant work, stress and headaches, I decide it’s time for some self-care. I’ll toss my homework aside and do whatever I please. I’ll delete all the homework tabs on my browser and go straight to Netflix. Bags of chips and cookies quickly replace notes and textbooks on my desk, and sooner or later I whip out some clay masks to rub onto my face. This all usually takes place after an approximately two-hour long nap. All in the name of looking after my mental health and staying sane — right?

We’ve all heard the cliche, overgeneralized statement that there are two types of people in the world. You might have heard it applied to the categorization of introverts and extroverts, realists and idealists or any other two contrasting labels. Regardless of its application, this statement presents a unique yet possibly contentious perspective solely based on one characteristic.

The transition from Zoom University to all in-person classes has been jarring for many of us here at the University. As a second year, I often feel more like a first year as I attend large college lectures and classes for the first time. One particular sentiment that several of my peers and I share is the utter shock of seeing the sheer number of people on Grounds. I didn’t know that so many people were students here!

For those who do not know, floriography is the Victorian language of flowers. Gaining popularity in the 19th century, this coded messaging through floral bouquets makes for a discreet way of communication. Traditionally, the symbolism and meanings of specific flowers can connect to culture, mythology, the appearance of the blooms themselves or are simply invented by people for the heck of it. On the surface, the practice of floriography may seem like such a bore. Yet, there are so many different combinations to explore and so many ways of expressing your sentiments, positive or not, with the human population through nature's most marvelous creation.
