Cross country teams look for new leadership

Roster turnover is inevitable in collegiate sports. Athletes have but four brief years to compete before moving on to larger and greater things. The Virginia men’s and women’s cross country teams are dealing with this harsh reality as they begin the 2013 season without several key contributors from past seasons.

Cavaliers fare well in ACC Championships

The Virginia men’s and women’s cross country teams had a strong showing at the ACC Championships Saturday at Smithfield Plantation in Blacksburg, Va. Competing against three teams ranked in the top 30, the men’s team finished second overall, a mere six points behind champion Virginia Tech.

The Virginia men’s and women’s cross-country teams begin their postseason with the ACC Championships Saturday at Smithfield Plantation in Blacksburg, Va.

Cross country squads face top national contenders at Wisconsin

It takes more than one or two superstars to make a cross country team. The Virginia men’s and women’s programs undeniably possess the requisite frontrunners for a special season, but their depth has come into question and will define the direction each squad takes in the coming weeks. Friday’s showdown against many of the nation’s top programs at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational will serve as a pivotal benchmark two weeks away from the ACC Championships.


U.Va. cross country teams finish third

The Virginia men’s and women’s cross country teams both placed third against a loaded field at the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational Saturday, setting the tone for the season’s biggest races which still lie ahead. The No.

Team hosts strong field of runners

The Virginia cross country program is not playing around. Shedding a history of inviting local teams to Charlottesville for a low-key regular season tune-up meet, the Cavaliers will instead host their most marquee field in recent memory Saturday.


Team to run without coach

Less than two weeks after coach Jason Vigilante resigned from his post as coach of the Virginia men's and women's track and field and cross country teams, the Cavaliers will begin the indoor track and field season without a head coach at this weekend's Liberty Kick-Off in Lynchburg. The meet, which will take place tomorrow and Saturday, pits Virginia against a handful of in-state foes, including host Liberty, Radford, VMI and Lynchburg.
