Baseball swept by Louisville

Sixth-ranked Louisville came to Davenport Field and handed 15th-ranked Virginia a definitive three-game series sweep Monday night. The Cardinals (25-7, 14-1 ACC) put forward a well-rounded effort, and simply played better than the Cavaliers (19-12, 6-9 ACC).

Wrestling battles up-and-coming Blue Devils

Fourteenth-ranked Virginia wrestling begins conference action this Friday against Duke in Charlottesville. The Cavaliers (8-3) put their 30-match win streak inside Memorial Gymnasium up against a Blue Devil (5-3, 1-1 ACC) squad that is considerably better than some of its previous iterations.

Softball struggles in season-opener

Virginia softball kicked off its season at the South Carolina Upstate Classic in Spartanburg, S.C. this weekend. The Cavaliers (1-4) struggled around the board, and fell by mercy rule in the tournament’s final two games.

The No. 13 Virginia wrestling team returns home to battle a familiar foe in Maryland on Friday. The Cavaliers, who have not wrestled in Memorial Gym in nearly three months, aim to hand the Terrapins a decisive loss in a known arena.

No. 12 matmen sweep weekend foes

The No. 12 Virginia wrestling team picked up two more wins over the weekend. The Cavaliers (13-2, 2-0 ACC) brushed aside Duke 30-6 Friday before outlasting Old Dominion 20-12 in a grueling, hard fought match.

Highly ranked harriers target NCAA Championship success

As the 15-week fall season comes to a close, both the No. 22 men’s team and the No. 10 women’s team will compete against the nation’s best at Saturday’s NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. Led by Zach Gates, Virginia finished 14th when they first attended the race in 2012.
