There seems to be a sense of panic spreading across U.S. Soccer circles. On the tail end of consecutive losses in international friendlies to Colombia and the Republic of Ireland, the team is winless since a post-World Cup friendly with the Czech Republic.


The Virginia midfield looks strong this year, and junior Todd Wharton is a big reason why. It doesn't hurt that senior All-American Eric Bird and freshman Jake Rozhansky play alongside him. The trio has combined for three goals and five assists for the No. 14 Cavaliers, who battle Duke at home Saturday at 7 p.m.

Preparing for its seventh game in 21 days, a Saturday night ACC matchup with Duke at Klöcker Stadium, the Virginia men’s soccer team (7-3-1, 0-2 ACC) is eager to escape this cruel stretch in its schedule, which – minus several hundred miles of travel – more closely resembles that of high school athletics.

North Carolina silences Men's Soccer, 1-0

For more than a month and a half, during a dazzling stretch from Sept. 13 to Oct. 29, the Virginia men’s soccer team did not lose a game. Friday night at Klöckner Stadium, North Carolina quietly silenced Virginia’s 11-game unbeaten streak with a 1-0 victory.

Men's Soccer settles for tie against rival Hokies

Despite outshooting Virginia Tech, 37-2, Virginia walked off Thompson Field with a 1-1 draw, a result only made possible when junior midfielder Eric Bird scored a game-tying goal with 34 seconds remaining in regulation. The No. 19 Cavaliers (6-3-4, 2-2-4 ACC) extended their undefeated streak to nine games, but failed once more to earn a win against a moderately imposing ACC opponent.

Funlola Fagbohun, associate director of the first year experience, describes her experience working with OTP and how she strives to create a welcoming environment for first-years during orientation and beyond.
