U.Va. centers promote community mindfulness

The University has incorporated two centers — the University Mindfulness Center and the Contemplative Sciences Center — to promote the health and well-being of community members both on-Grounds and in the greater Charlottesville area.

U.Va. maintains affirmative action policy

Last Thursday, University President Teresa Sullivan distributed a message to the University community stating that the University would continue to use affirmative action in its selection process in accordance with a recent Supreme Court ruling.


Based on analysis of fair market rent, the VHA report claims that modest apartments are out of reach for low wage-earners, and that there is an overall lack of affordable housing for many renters.

City Council to address affordable housing costs

Szakos said she attributes the difficulties people face in finding housing to a combination of factors, including the limited area of the City and the large number of low-wage workers employed by the University and University-affiliated contractors.


Around 1:00 a.m. officers on the Corner responded to shots fired around the 100 block of Elliewood Avenue.

Three shots fired incidents were reported in Charlottesville Friday morning, with one of the reports relating to several shots fired in the Elliewood Avenue Area.
