Student Council has access to a surplus of funds as a result of low utilization of Student Activities Fee funding by CIOs during the pandemic.
The meeting — which took place Sunday at 7 p.m. in the trial room of Newcomb Hall — allowed for representatives to gauge their fellow members’ thoughts on the usefulness of the informed retraction.
Disorientation was created as a juxtaposition to new student orientation and recognizes and educates students on the history of racism and inequality at the University.
The plan that was approved by the committee would maintain the current single-sanction system in place. However, it would eliminate expulsion as a sanction and would replace it with a two-semester leave of absence.
Elliott encouraged students, workers and community members “serious about dismantling racial capitalism” to read abolitionist works and join organizations like YDSA.
Chambers said he feels these modifications will address problems the student body has with the current system.
Each of these institutions serves a unique purpose in facilitating self-governance on Grounds.
The buses will require students to wear masks while riding as well as during the entirety of the boarding and unloading processes.
The wall is a memorial to Frank Hume, a Confederate soldier and Virginia delegate.
The resolution supports the For the People Act, which is a Congressional bill for democracy reform that aims to make federal voting more accessible, end gerrymandering, increase election security, strengthen and enforce campaign finance laws and increase ethical standards in government.
The transition to new committees took place through the beginning of April.
Liu, Cain and Cieslukowski ran on a joint ticket centered around ushering in a “new era of student governance” through equity, empowerment and renewal.
The incoming administration will take office next week.
Abel Liu, chair of the representative body and third-year College student, and third-year College student Rep. Ryan Alcorn sponsored the resolution.
Three representatives voted in favor of a bill condemning "cancel culture," while 19 representatives voted against it and one abstained.
The letter was written by individuals representing organizations including the Jewish Leadership Council, the Jewish Law Students Association, J Street U, CavPAC, Challah for Hunger and Hoos for Israel.
Liu and Oxley addressed their leadership priorities, dynamics within Student Council and the role of student self-governance in promoting inclusion and supporting students during the pandemic.
A statement from UBE acknowledged that Oxley's supporters misgendered Liu and circulated factually inaccurate information about Liu's campaign.
Voting for all student elections — which includes candidates for Student Council, Honor Council, University Judiciary Committee and Class Council — opens Wednesday.
