The loss drops Virginia to 0-2 against Duke on the series, an impossible hole to climb out of with just one game remaining. The Cavaliers have shown flashes of the team that entered the weekend ranked among the nation's best, but timely hitting and late-game execution have been elusive all series.
The first four batters in Virginia's lineup were held hitless, while Duke's top four combined for four hits.

Despite the snapping of their winning streak, the Cavaliers emerged triumphant from Chapel Hill. They will now return to Charlottesville for a homestand with a standalone contest against Hampton Tuesday, followed by a weekend series against Georgia Tech for their second ACC matchup.
“Everyone is getting us ready for ACC play,” Hardin said. “That’s what this part of the season is all about — seeing who can do what and when and how. It’s to put ourselves in high-leverage situations, put ourselves in tough situations and compete.”
After a pair of road and home victories, Virginia has now extended its win streak to 14 since its opening loss to then-No. 8 Arkansas.
