Softball gets big series win against North Carolina

Everything seemed to click for the Virginia softball team this weekend. It had arguably its best series performance of the season, taking two of three against the Tar Heels. The Cavaliers (15-28, 5-10 ACC) used strong pitching and timely hitting to take down a quality opponent in North Carolina (24-21, 8-10 ACC).


Senior Lauren Coughlin held on Sunday to win the ACC women's golf individual championship. The Cavalier won the team championship as well.

​Women’s golf defends ACC title

When it comes to ACC women’s golf, it’s all about the Cavaliers. The Virginia women’s golf team defended its title at the ACC Tournament this past weekend in Greensboro, N.C., grabbing first place for the second consecutive year. In addition to the team’s first, senior Lauren Coughlin was crowned individual champion of the field of 60 in the 54-hole tournament.


Junior catcher Matt Thaiss is helping propel a strong Virginia offense.

Cavaliers host UNC in three-game home stand

After dropping to 7-8 in ACC play following a series loss against Boston College (18-11, 5-8 ACC) this past weekend, Virginia is looking to claw its way back up to .500 in the ACC with a strong showing against No. 13 North Carolina Friday, Saturday and Sunday.


Junior linebacker Micah Kiser, who is switching from a 4-3 middle linebacker to 3-4 middle linebacker, is assuming leadership as the defense switches schemes.

Virginia football is focusing on the future

The scene at the McCue Center Thursday morning was nothing short of energetic although there was a peculiar combination of coaches yelling, whistles blowing, players shouting encouragement and, in the background, reggae music. 


Daniel Pinero snagged a bare-handed grab in left field Wednesday night in Virginia's win against Longwood.

Pinero bare-hander highlights 9-4 victory

Longwood baserunners stood at the corners with nobody out in the top of the fifth. Virginia was hanging on to a 6-2 lead, and coach Brian O’Connor had just snatched the baseball from freshman starter Daniel Lynch after a walk and handed it to junior reliever Tyler Shambora.

Baseball begins six-game homestand

A springtime return to Charlottesville comes at the right time for the Cavaliers (20-14, 7-8 ACC), who have lost five of their last six road contests and consequently fallen outside of the NCAA’s top-25 rankings.


Senior Ryan Shane will play his final home matches Friday and Saturday against Wake Forest and Miami, respectively. The 2014-15 NCAA Singles Champion, along with eight other seniors on men and women's tennis, have graced the University over the years with their talents.

Wednesday night, the NBA’s Golden State Warriors play the Memphis Grizzlies at Oracle Arena in Oakland with a record-setting 73-win season for the taking. In the spotlight all year long, Stephen Curry and his teammates might just do what no one has done before.


Virginia's First Varsity Eight boat finished a full 20 seconds ahead of Duke in its race Saturday. The Cavaliers swept all five races from the Blue Devils to make for a memorable Senior Day.

Rowing sweeps on Senior Day

The No. 3 Virginia women’s rowing team swept all five races at the Rivanna Reservoir against Duke on Saturday morning. The Cavaliers dominated in their final home race of the season, which was also Senior Day.


Lost in disappointment, the pitching performance Adam Haseley lent Virginia team an exceptional pitching performance in Saturday's loss, surrendering two runs over eight innings of five-hit work.

Baseball blows leads, loses series to Boston College

Absent from the top-25 rankings for the first time in 2016, the Virginia baseball team headed north to Chestnut Hills, Mass. for a three-game weekend series at Boston College. Behind the arm of junior ace Connor Jones, the Cavaliers (20-14, 7-8 ACC) blanked the Eagles (16-11, 5-8 ACC) on a windy opener Friday, 3-0.


Senior attackman James Pannell netted two goals Sunday in a 16-8 loss against North Carolina.

​Men’s lacrosse remains winless in ACC play

The No. 20 Virginia men’s lacrosse team fell against No. 11 North Carolina at Kenan Stadium Sunday afternoon, 16-8. The loss snapped a three game win streak for the Cavaliers (6-6, 0-3 ACC) and allowed the Tar Heels (7-4, 2-0 ACC) to maintain their unbeaten conference record.
