Virginia falls to Pitt, 68-63

The Virginia women’s basketball team led for over 39 minutes against Pittsburgh but could not close out to lose its fourth straight game, 68-63 Thursday night at the Petersen Events Center.

No. 7 Virginia earns first win over Richmond

The No. 7 Virginia women’s lacrosse team won its first game of the season Wednesday afternoon 14-6 against Richmond. The Spiders saved 12 of Virginia’s shots, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Virginia offense, which had a total of 36 shots.

Evaluating the Justin Anderson-less Virginia offense

When the Virginia basketball team lost junior guard Justin Anderson to a finger injury a week and a half ago, I wasn’t sure what to think. Obviously losing a player ranked second on the team in points per game and third in minutes per game is not a positive. But given our system-based offense and defense, I was hopeful the damages would be minimal.

After going down to the wire against NC State and Wake Forest in its first two games without junior guard Justin Anderson, the Virginia men’s basketball team matched up with Pittsburgh Monday night at John Paul Jones Arena.

Women’s golf takes second at Florida State Match-Up

After opening the spring season with a title at the UCF Challenge in Orlando, the Virginia women’s golf team placed second at the 12-team Florida State Match-Up in Tallahassee, Florida. The No. 17 Cavaliers improved throughout the three-day, 54-hole event and shot 19-over 883 overall to finish seven strokes behind champion No. 26 Furman.

No. 3 Virginia falls to Baylor in ITA Indoor Quarters, defeats North Carolina in consolations

As the 16 best teams in the country gathered in Chicago this past weekend for the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, the third-seeded Virginia men’s tennis team looked primed for a deep run and a potential championship. Boasting two top five players, first-ranked sophomore Thai-Son Kwiatkowski and No. 4 junior Ryan Shane, Virginia seemed to be a team playing some of its best tennis.

Softball Earns Split at Eagle Challenge

The Virginia softball team participated in the Eagle Challenge this weekend and emerged with a 2-2 split. The Cavaliers (3-6) earned a pair of victories Friday against Omaha and Delaware State, but stumbled in losses against North Carolina Central and in their second encounter against Omaha.
