Newest Crippen keeps family legacy afloat

As she pursued her passion for swimming, Claire Crippen's last name could have been a burden; her older brother, Fran Crippen, had already established himself as a world-class athlete in the pool -- a tough act to follow. Claire Crippen was not deterred: Only halfway through her first year on the Virginia swimming and diving team she is already recognized as one of the Cavaliers' top female competitors. "All the way through high school I followed in my brother and sisters' footsteps," Crippen said.

Who would've thought that after the Cavs gave away Wednesday's overtime loss to Virginia Tech that Virginia would have a laid back, let's-all-be-happy practice the next day? "I'm just going to say it was an unorthodox practice we had," senior Ryan Pettinella said.

Cavaliers take three over weekend

The Virginia wrestling squad continued to gain momentum heading into their ACC regular season schedule with three victories last weekend in North Carolina. The Cavaliers began the weekend Saturday against Appalachian State, winning seven of 10 matches on their way to a 24-10 victory.

Virginia finds success in N.C.

The Virginia swim and dive teams routed Duke and Gardner Webb Saturday in Durham, N.C. Sunday, freshman Liz Shaw broke an ACC record in the 200 butterfly, finishing at 1:57.04.

Cavs host Boston College as team looks to break three-game skid with ACC win

It's not quite do-or-die for the Virginia men's basketball team, but it's close. The Cavaliers will face a tough test Saturday night when Boston College travels to Charlottesville to take on Virginia at John Paul Jones Arena. The Cavaliers find themselves in the midst of a three-game losing streak and have recently endured blowout losses to Xavier and Duke.

I've seen the Cavaliers lose heartbreakers before, and this was not one of them. This was a tearjerker. It had all the elements of a storyline that is capped off with a happy ending.
