Seniors hit the pool for final home meet Sunday afternoon

Despite losing its first ACC dual meet since 1998, the Virginia men's swimming and diving team is poised to take on Pittsburgh Sunday. Indeed, the Panthers are likely to bear the brunt of the Cavaliers' lingering anger over their 2-point loss at the hands of the Tar Heels. "Last weekend's result won't change a thing about how we approach Pittsburgh," Virginia coach Mark Bernardino said.

Cavs ready to bounce back after ACC loss

After dropping its fourth game in its last five on the road against Florida State Wednesday, the Virginia men's basketball team returns to Charlottesville Sunday afternoon for a matchup with Georgia Tech. For the second time in three games, Virginia (11-6, 1-3 ACC) was unable to close after it opened up a double-digit lead in the second half against the Seminoles.

Cavs begin ACC schedule on three-game win streak

After three strong victories on the road this past weekend, the Virginia wrestling team now begins its ACC regular season against North Carolina and Virginia Tech. Those three victories seem to mark a turning point in the Cavaliers' season of which past years have fallen short.

Seminoles steal victory from Singletary

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- For the second time in three games, Virginia got out to a sizeable lead in the second half but was unable to close in the final minutes, as the team fell to Florida State 69-67. "When you lose a game by a possession or two, similar to the 1-point game we lost last week, I go immediately back to the 20, 30, 40 hours that doesn't prepare you well enough to either hold down the fort or maintain a lead or execute when you need to," Virginia coach Dave Leitao said. With Florida State (13-7, 2-3 ACC) leading 63-62 and 43 seconds on the clock, the Cavaliers (11-6, 1-3 ACC) put the ball in the usually secure hands of senior Sean Singletary.

Newest Crippen keeps family legacy afloat

As she pursued her passion for swimming, Claire Crippen's last name could have been a burden; her older brother, Fran Crippen, had already established himself as a world-class athlete in the pool -- a tough act to follow. Claire Crippen was not deterred: Only halfway through her first year on the Virginia swimming and diving team she is already recognized as one of the Cavaliers' top female competitors. "All the way through high school I followed in my brother and sisters' footsteps," Crippen said.

Cavaliers take three over weekend

The Virginia wrestling squad continued to gain momentum heading into their ACC regular season schedule with three victories last weekend in North Carolina. The Cavaliers began the weekend Saturday against Appalachian State, winning seven of 10 matches on their way to a 24-10 victory.

Virginia finds success in N.C.

The Virginia swim and dive teams routed Duke and Gardner Webb Saturday in Durham, N.C. Sunday, freshman Liz Shaw broke an ACC record in the 200 butterfly, finishing at 1:57.04.
