A few weeks ago, I wrote about how football recently became the center of my sports world, and how "If we can only get through that pesky World Series, it'll be football every single night on SportsCenter." Well, since then, my Green Bay Packers have dropped three straight games and things aren't looking good, particularly with Brett Favre's health problems.

With Canty out, Robinson ready to step up

His name means "male child born on Wednesday." But it will be a Thursday night when junior defensive end Kwakou Robinson gets the chance to prove that he belongs with the men of the trenches in ACC football. The Virginia softball team pounded George Washington University yesterday throughout the five played innings, winning 8-0. In the last game of the Cavalier Fall Classic, the Cavaliers pulled ahead by three against the Colonials in the first inning.

Cross country takes seventh and eighth at Great American

The women's cross country team finished seventh and the men's team placed eighth at Friday's Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, N.C. Top-team finishers freshman Emily Harrison and senior Cheryl Carr crossed the finish line within a second of each other to place 20th and 21st, respectively, in the women's race. Duke won the meet 56-85 over second place North Carolina.

Nothing like a good rivalry

What is it about rivalry that changes games -- changes teams for that matter? Dictionary.com defines a rival as "one who attempts to equal or surpass another, or who pursues the same object as another; a competitor." By that definition, wouldn't every opponent a team played be a rival?
