Brogdon leads Virginia past Georgia Tech, 72-52

If there was any doubt left of whether or not Virginia senior guard Malcolm Brogdon deserved to become the first ever player to win both ACC player of the year and defensive player of the year in the same season, it should be quelled after Thursday night.


An emotional Bronco Mendenhall address the media a couple of hours after BYU annouced that Mendenhall was leaving to go and coach at Virginia University. Mendenhall spent most of the press conference with his eyes closed, looking down and wiping away tears.

Rising up to the challenge

At the end of last year’s football season, many people looked at the Virginia program with disappointment. Across the country in Provo, Utah, Bronco Mendenhall looked at it as something quite different: a challenge.


Sophomore infielder Justin Novak struggled to produce in limited plate appearances last season. Tuesday afternoon, Novak started at second base and, with two hits, two runs and three RBIs, helped lead the Cavaliers to a 16-8 victory over William and Mary.

​Cavaliers double up William and Mary, 16-8

In a battle of Jeffersonian origins, the No. 19 Virginia baseball team hosted William and Mary on a beautiful first day of March. Fresh off two losses in three games against East Carolina, their only home weekend series defeat to a non-conference club over coach Brian O’Connor’s tenure, the Cavaliers scratched across nine runs inthe first inning Tuesday.


Senior Ryan Shane ruled out with an undisclosed injury Saturday, sophomore Collin Altamirano stepped into Virginia's No. 1 singles position. Altamirano gave his all in a 6-2, 6-3 defeat, as the shorthanded Cavaliers fell 4-3 in Urbana, Illinois.

Illinois upsets men's tennis, 4-3

The No. 2 Virginia men’s tennis team suffered a tough loss to No. 11 Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, Ill. The Cavaliers fall to 8-2 on the year with this loss and the previous one to UNC.
