The Virginia women's basketball team will try to make two wins in a row as they entertain the North Florida Ospreys tonight at John Paul Jones Arena. The Cavaliers enter this game with a 13-10 record, desperate to gain any win they can en route to a postseason berth-- especially against the 6-15 Ospreys.
Lately, nothing has gone wrong for the Virginia men's basketball team. Virginia coach Dave Leitao has inspired his team to achieve six straight victories, and the Cavaliers are now tied for first in the ACC with a record of 15-6 (7-2 ACC). That standing, however, will be in jeopardy tonight as Virginia travels to College Park, Maryland to face the Maryland Terrapins. In the first place, any and all ACC road games are difficult, but tonight's game at Maryland has a little something extra added to it.
Sunday evening, 10:30 p.m. The big game just ended. I'm freakin' exhausted. The only break from the four-hour extravaganza was the halftime show, which was spent watching X2 and admiring the gorgeous Rebecca Romijn in that stunning blue suit rather than sitting through a way-too-long performance by Prince.
It is one thing to be a dominant, older player who, time and time again, leads her team to victory.
Thanks to a strong defensive effort and a second-half offensive explosion, the Virginia women's basketball team broke a five-game losing streak by defeating the Miami Hurricanes 73-60 Sunday afternoon at the John Paul Jones Arena. "Thank God," Virginia coach Debbie Ryan said.
Only 48 hours after recording one of the most significant victories in the recent history of the men's basketball program, Virginia avoided a letdown on Saturday evening as the Cavaliers beat Miami 81-70. "In winning the game today, the most satisfactory part of it was how mature we could be off of a very emotional night on Thursday with only a day to prepare," Virginia coach Dave Leitao said.
Saturday afternoon, in the last home race of his career, senior and co-captain Stefan Hirniak was poised to break the AFC's pool record in the 200 Butterfly.
In case you missed it, the Virginia men's basketball team is in first place in the ACC. Now stop, take a deep breath, and read that first sentence over again. After two home wins over No.
Peyton Manning, you can now let out a sigh of relief. You are no longer mentioned in the same breath as Dan Marino, Jim Kelly, Dan Fouts and Fran Tarkenton as being among the best quarterbacks never to have won a Super Bowl.
For the Virginia women's basketball team, the past two weeks have been forgettable. The Cavaliers are on a four-game losing skid, but could bring their struggles to a halt this weekend as they host two ACC opponents.
Time stood still last night at the John Paul Jones Arena. It was only for a second, but while junior guard Sean Singletary's game-winning floater soared through the air, the Cavalier faithful stood in silent anticipation of beating arguably one of the best programs in college basketball history.

Krzyzewski and their 20 some-odd TAs put on a stellar performance. Here is what I learned: I learned that Sean Singletary plays a whole lot better when he is angry.
Tomorrow afternoon, the seniors of the Virginia swim and dive team will race one last time in the Aquatic & Fitness Center.
Virginia (5-6, 1-1 ACC) hit its stride Sunday during its convincing 25-9 win over Virginia Tech. Virginia hopes to ride this momentum into Athens, Ohio, where it will take on Ohio University (13-6) and Ashland University (7-6) in back-to-back meets Saturday. The importance of these meets is not lost on the Cavaliers, as they head into the homestretch of the season.
I am a Red Sox fan. (Yankees fans, feel free to continue reading. I won't make any slights after this one: In 2004, your team blew a 3-0 series ALCS lead on Boston, who has won a World Series title more recently than New York.) Whenever I tell people I am a Red Sox fan, they immediately ask why.
As the last month of the season gets underway, the Virginia men's club ice hockey team has four games left to play before the Atlantic Coast Collegiate Hockey League Tournament takes place later in February.
Last night at the Aquatic and Fitness Center, the Virginia women's swimming and diving team downed the Richmond Spiders 123-110. With the victory, the Cavaliers improve to 6-3 this season.
The Virginia Cavaliers (13-6, 5-2 ACC) and the Duke Blue Devils (18-3, 5-2 ACC) face off tonight at 9 p.m.
