University of Virginia's Pro timing Day

NFL scouts and other team representatives descended on Charlottesville Tuesday for the University's Pro Timing Day. Similar to the NFL combine held in Indianapolis in February, Pro Timing Day gives draft-eligible players a chance to be measured both physically and athletically. Among the players that worked out from the Cavaliers were D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Marques Hagans, Kai Parham, Brennan Schmidt, Brian Barthelmes, Ottowa Anderson, Kwakou Robinson, Wali Lundy, Connor Hughes, Kurt Smith and Bryan White. After being measured for height, weight, hand size and arm span, players began the tests.

Virginia thrives under all-new coaching staff

At the end of the 2005 season, after eight years at the helm of the University of Virginia softball program, Cheryl Sprangel resigned from the position of head coach after collecting the most wins in Virginia softball history. Looking for someone to fill her shoes, athletic director Craig Littlepage undertook the job of revamping the coaching staff, just weeks after doing the same for the basketball team. Littlepage's answer was Karen Johns. Carie Dever-Boaz and Iyhia McMichael were then added as assistants.

While Billy Packer and Jim Nantz (CBS sports announcers) were on national television last week ranting and raving about the sub-par job of the NCAA committee (chaired by Virginia athletic director Craig Littlepage), it appears Littlepage did not get the credit he deserved.

Virginia sweeps number two team

After taking a victory from Georgia Tech down in Atlanta last weekend, this weekend Virginia (19-4, 4-2 ACC) returned to Charlottesville and defeated second-ranked Clemson (11-6, 0-3 ACC) 7-4 sweeping the Tigers for the second consecutive series in Charlottesville.

For the first time this season, the No. 8 North Carolina lacrosse team will leave the friendly confines of Chapel Hill. Well-balanced Cavs begin ACC play at Virginia Tech

The University of Virginia softball team begins ACC play this weekend as they travel to Virginia Tech for a three-game series. Entering the series, the Cavaliers bring a 13-7 record and a well-balanced attack in pitching and offense. Junior catcher and outfielder Amy McKean has been raising plenty of eyebrows this season, leading the Cavaliers' offense.

Only Madness at UConn is in the lack of discipline

UConn made me love the single sanction. A.J. Price and Marcus Williams, two guards on the UConn men's basketball team, were involved in the theft of $11,000 worth of computers from fellow students this past summer. According to MSNBC, "In their criminal cases, both applied for a special form of probation for first-time offenders.

Ferguson places sixth in NCAAs

As Spring Break came to a close and students returned to Charlottesville, the Virginia track team's Tomika Ferguson earned All-American honors at the NCAA Championships in Arkansas. Ferguson placed sixth in the triple jump competition, hitting a jump of 13.32 m and breaking her own school record by 12 m.

Six-run seventh inning wins game 10-3 for Cavaliers

The Virginia baseball team got out to a slow start, but they exploded in one big inning. After driving in six runs in the seventh, the Cavaliers blew out Dayton 10-3 to improve their record to 16-4 on the season. "It was a great win," Virginia coach Brian O'Connor said.
