Madison named new field hockey coach

The University of Virginia announced yesterday that it has hired Michele Madison to coach the field hockey team. Madison was previously the head coach at Michigan State, where she leaves as the school's all-time leader in victories. Her 17-year coaching career also includes a coaching job at Temple.

Virginia takes on traditional power in Mem Gym

The Virginia wrestling team will look to get back on the winning track -- or mat -- this Sunday at noon, when the Cavaliers face Ohio State at Memorial Gymnasium. In their last match at the Virginia Duals on Saturday against North Carolina, Virginia lost a close match, 20-18.

BLACKSBURG, VA. ­-- By posting her third career double-double -- 19 points and 12 rebounds -- freshman forward Laura Littles helped lead the Cavaliers to a 78-59 win over instate rival Virginia Tech Monday night. When asked what it felt like to win with such a strong performance as a freshman, Virginia forward Lyndra Littles quickly delivered an answer that brought a broad smile to Virginia coach Debbie Ryan's face. "Coach always reminds us that there is no age in basketball," Littles said.

Billy Campbell does not usually get a lot of minutes, but when he does, he makes them count. In Tuesday night's win over Northwestern, he provided the Cavaliers with a spark off the bench as his clutch three-pointer allowed Virginia to regain momentum and take control of the game.
