Well, we have arrived at roughly the midpoint of the basketball season, and the path taken to Virginia's 8-6 record probably has been just as wild as the conclusion of Sunday's win over Virginia Tech.
There was no holiday hangover for Virginia this time around. In 2004, the Cavaliers traveled to Boise, Idaho for the MPC Computers Bowl and lost to Fresno State 37-34 in overtime only three days after Christmas.
BLACKSBURG, VA. They may be the sixth youngest team in the country, but the women's basketball players sure do get it. They get head coach Debbie Ryan's philosophies.
BLACKSBURG, VA. -- The look of utter determination on Sean Singletary's face made it clear that he was not going to let his team lose this game, no matter what the circumstances.
BLACKSBURG, VA. -- By posting her third career double-double -- 19 points and 12 rebounds -- freshman forward Laura Littles helped lead the Cavaliers to a 78-59 win over instate rival Virginia Tech Monday night. When asked what it felt like to win with such a strong performance as a freshman, Virginia forward Lyndra Littles quickly delivered an answer that brought a broad smile to Virginia coach Debbie Ryan's face. The team competed in the annual tournament in the Virgin Islands during Thanksgiving Break, compiling a 1-1 record while there. Virginia's current record stands at 3-1, as the team downed George Washington to open the season and Wright State in its home opener before heading to the Caribbean.
The second half of Virginia's 72-57 win over Northwestern (3-3) belonged to point guard Sean Singletary.
Tony Bennett left his heart in San Francisco. Maybe some lucky Virginia football fan making the trek out there for the Emerald Bowl will be able to find it and replace it with the one the Cavaliers broke this season. The Cavaliers finished second in the ACC in the 2002 football season with a 6-2 record.
