Men take fifth, women grab seventh in Festival

CARY, N.C. -- Talk about a runner's high. The Virginia men's cross country team was running their cool down jog at the Great American Cross Country Festival Friday when the meet results were announced over the loudspeaker. "Finishing fifth, with 146 points, Virginia," the announcer said. A yell from the pack of seven runners burst out.

Matt Schaub might have been the pregame center of attention, but some unlikely characters stole the show to make Schaub's return a victorious one. Sure, Schaub started out strong with 200 first-half passing yards.

Cavs lose first of year, bounce back to record ACC win

Virginia volleyball rallied from a set down to beat the Blue Devils Saturday, 3-2, winning its first ACC match a day after the team's 16-game winning streak -- the longest in the program's history -- was snapped. The Cavaliers' streak came to an end with its loss to Wake Forest in a closely-contested match at Mem Gym Friday night.

ACC fighting for Irish membership in 2004

Having already added two big-name schools this summer with Miami and Virginia Tech, the ACC has now begun discussions with Notre Dame in an attempt to secure a 12th member for the conference. The ACC has discussed several different scenarios with the Irish; most notably one which would change Notre Dame's football status from independent to a member of the ACC.

Cavaliers take No. 16 spot at Mason Rudolph tourney

Tuesday in Nashville, Tenn. the Virginia men's golf team shot a 307 (+23) to finish the Mason Rudolph Collegiate with a total score of 606 (+38) and a 16th place finish. Individually, sophomore Brad Tilley shot a 76 (+5) for a two-day total of 146 (+4), which put him in a tie for 21st place.
