​Women’s basketball season ends against Hofstra

Following back-to-back wins against Virginia Commonwealth and Rutgers, respectively, in the WNIT, the Virginia women’s basketball team finally saw its season come to an end. The Cavaliers (18-16, 6-10 ACC) fell 65-57 against Hofstra in the Round of 16 Tuesday night in the Mack Athletic Complex in Hempstead, N.Y.


Senior guard Faith Randolph scored both the first and last basket Thursday in her final game at John Paul Jones Arena. The Cavaliers defeated North Carolina for the first time since 2010.

Randolph seals win on senior night, 72-68

With her final game at John Paul Jones Arena in jeopardy of ending in a loss Thursday, senior guard Faith Randolph made two plays down the stretch that willed her Virginia women’s basketball team to victory over North Carolina, 72-68.


Virginia senior guard Faith Randolph, now back from a broken thumb, recorded her first career double-double with 13 points and 13 boards Sunday in a 65-48 win against Clemson.

Pink-clad Cavaliers defeat Clemson

Garbed in pink jerseys, headbands and shoes to raise awareness for breast cancer and to honor former North Carolina State Coach Kay Yow, who passed away in 2009 after a 22-year fight against the disease, the Virginia women’s basketball team hosted Clemson Sunday.


Sophomore floor general Mikayla Venson averages 15.1 points per game to  lead Virginia but scored only eight on 14 shots in the loss to Virginia  Tech.

Virginia will have its work cut out for itself on the defensive end. Any offense that shares the basketball and can operate around multiples scorers like Syracuse’s is difficult to stop.
