Late run pushes Virginia past Harvard

The No.8 Virginia women’s lacrosse team opened its home schedule on Tuesday afternoon with a 13-9 victory against Harvard. Down one goal with 14:27 remaining in the game, the Cavaliers (3-2, 0-1 ACC) went on a 5-0 run to secure its second straight win of the season.

Last-Second Goal Lifts No. 8 Women's Lacrosse past Penn State

With four seconds remaining in the game, Virginia senior attacker Casey Bocklett scored a goal to seal the 16-15 victory for the eighth-ranked Cavaliers over No.9 Penn State Saturday afternoon, closing out their season-opening road trip. Virginia had previously lost to No. 3 Syracuse and No. 5 Northwestern by one goal apiece.

No. 7 Virginia earns first win over Richmond

The No. 7 Virginia women’s lacrosse team won its first game of the season Wednesday afternoon 14-6 against Richmond. The Spiders saved 12 of Virginia’s shots, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Virginia offense, which had a total of 36 shots.


Senior attacker Courtney Swan earned IWLCA Second Team All-American honors last year. The Cavaliers boast a deep core of veterans including Swan and senior midfielder Morgan Stephens.

Veteran women’s lacrosse begins season with high expectations

After reaching the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament last season, Virginia women’s lacrosse faces expectations to earn the program’s first national championship since 2004. Last season’s semifinal result, a loss to conference foe Syracuse, was the best finish for the Cavaliers since the 2007 season when they lost in the title game against Northwestern.


	Sophomore attacker Kelly Boyd and the No. 15 Cavaliers play Virginia Tech Wednesday night in their final game of the regular season. Virginia appears to be playing its best lacrosse of the year, with four wins in its past five contests.

Women's lacrosse battles Hokies in Blacksburg

The No. 15 Virginia women’s lacrosse team enters its final regular season game against Virginia Tech Wednesday with a lot on the line. A win against the archrival Hokies would secure not only a year’s worth of bragging rights, but also a likely berth into the NCAA Tournament.


	Junior midfielder Daniela Eppler scored her second goal of the season with 6:05 to go in the first half of Virginia’s Tuesday night win against American. The Cavaliers won their second straight game.

Women's Lacrosse soars past Eagles

Virginia (6-6, 0-3 ACC) came out firing on all cylinders Tuesday night, dominating every facet of the game to secure an 18-4 win against an overwhelmed American (4-9, 0-4 Patriot League) squad.


	Sitting at 4-6 (0-3 ACC) with six games to play in the regular season, senior defender Lauren Goerz and the No. 16 Virginia women’s lacrosse team are in danger of missing the NCAA Tournament. The Cavaliers will look to gain momentum Wednesday night in a home game against Old Dominion.

Women's Lacrosse hosts Old Dominion

Unfortunately for Virginia, a setback Saturday against No. 8 Duke dropped the team back to two games below .500 – a situation where every game is becoming more and more critical. On Wednesday night, the No. 16 Cavaliers (4-6, 0-3 ACC) will again have a chance to get back on track when they face Old Dominion at home (3-6).


	Senior midfielder Maddy Keeshan and the Virginia women’s lacrosse team, who play James Madison Wednesday night, are still waiting to take off in 2014. The No. 6 Cavaliers have four losses against top-10 teams. Keeshan, who led Virginia with 18 caused turnovers last year, is fifth on the team with 15 points.

Virginia looks to turn season around

The first few weeks of the 2014 season have proved to be a difficult challenge for Virginia. The Cavaliers, faced with one of the nation’s toughest schedules, lost four games against top-10 ranked opponents, including multiple in which the opponent’s second half run sunk a chance for a Virginia victory.

No. 9 women's lacrosse holds off eighth-ranked Penn State

Desperate for a win against a ranked opponent, No. 9 Virginia women’s lacrosse finally pulled through against No. 8 Penn State, winning 12-11. After going back and forth for the first 30 minutes, the Cavaliers (2-3, 0-1 ACC) used a second half surge to survive a late Penn State (2-2, 0-1 ACC) run to earn their first victory in four attempts against another ranked team.
