University looking into Weeks case, official says

Two days after reports surfaced that an official in Facilities Management, L. T. "Spike" Weeks, had accepted money transfers from a painter hired by the University, several employees have said Weeks was escorted off Grounds yesterday. Weeks originally was accused of misdeeds by Rainbow Painting owner Ed Kirby, who presented documents of Weeks having accepted money transfers and other gifts from John Sandalis, the former owner of Dalis Painting Inc. Weeks denied having done so. Two University employees reported that Weeks was escorted off Grounds.

Rainbow Painting owner claims he was treated unfairly

Ed Kirby, owner of Rainbow Painting, is considering taking legal action against the University as a result of having his contract terminated last spring. Kirby had been hired by Facilities Management to paint part of Maury Hall, and his workers were using electric guns to remove paint from the facing of the building's roof. Kirby partially attributed his company losing the job to the relationship between competitor John Sandalis, owner of Dalis Painting Inc., and L.T.

For many it has been a rocky semester. While students were still flooding the University Bookstore and reuniting with old friends in the limbo before classes began, the budget cuts were already striking: Libraries closed earlier and printers quietly disappeared from the libraries while page quotas were implemented. Comfort, however, was not to be found in a long, hot shower.
