Winter break expectations vs. reality

Winter break has finally come to a close, which means back to class, back to not ever finishing those reading assignments and back to setting 10 alarms for your 11 a.m.

This University is a big pool filled with people from several corners of the world. Each person you meet is like a snowflake: unique, yes, but also composed primarily of water.

Qualms and questions

The phrase “we, the people” implies a populants of a society are inherently interconnected. Coined by our forefathers, the words link the people of a nation using one commonality: our shared humanity. I find myself keeping these words in mind as I begrudgingly approach the end of my college career.

What’s the deal with that?

1. What’s the deal with texts I receive from my mother? Thanks to pop culture (or maybe Donald Trump, because he is probably the root of all evil,) my mother is a self-proclaimed “cool mom.” This means every other day or so I receive a text in reference to something only 15 year old girls should be discussing.

Dumb questions do exist

Growing up, one of the most common statements I heard from teachers was “There is no such thing as a dumb question”. Almost everyone has heard this from a teacher, parent, or mentor at some point in their life.

The college vernacular

I have a 16-year-old sister, so I think I’m fairly “up with the times” — a phrase some self-proclaimed “cool mom” probably says at least twice a week.

A finals survival guide

I hate to be the one to say it, but finals are coming — cue “Game of Thrones” theme song. In turn, I have compiled a list of tips and tricks to get us through the homestretch of the semester.
