Cheating cases move through system

The Honor Committee released statistics yesterday showing that more than half of the 148 honor charges filed by Physics Professor Louis Bloomfield last spring have been investigated. "We're glad we're making substantive progress," Committee Chairman Thomas Hall said.

Assembly kills bill to limit out-of-state students

Out-of-state applicants to the University can breathe a sigh of relief, but maybe not for long. House bill 2506, which called for limiting the percentage of out-of-state students in Virginia's four-year public colleges to 25 percent, was killed in the House Education Committee last week. In response, one of the bill's sponsors, John Reid (R-Richmond), proposed and received approval Tuesday for HJ 675, a House resolution to create a commission to review issues under consideration in the original bill.

Program gives law students time to teach

The courtroom can wait, at least for some aspiring lawyers. The Law School recently formed a partnership with Teach for America that will enable future law students to defer admission and teach full-time for two years as part of the program. TFA is a private national organization that offers college graduates with bachelor's degrees the chance to teach for two years at one of 17 low-income public schools around the country.
