Tucker Radebaugh's career as a lacrosse player may be over. His involvement with the Virginia program, however, may have only just begun.
On Aug. 23, Cav coach Dom Starsia announced that Radebaugh will join the Cavalier coaching ranks, replacing assistant coach Doug Knight.
"We are going to miss Doug Knight's influence on the lacrosse program at Virginia," Starsia said in the announcement. "However, we are also very fortunate to welcome Tucker Radebaugh to our staff. Tucker has all the qualities to become an outstanding college lacrosse coach.
"He is also simply one of my favorite people," he said, "always recognized as a leader and someone who has become a friend during his playing career. Tucker will find himself involved in all aspects of the Virginia lacrosse program."
Radebaugh, a team captain during his last two years, played as both midfielder and attacker for the Cavs. During his career, he received two All-ACC nods, and was selected to the All-American team three times, twice on the first team.
During the 1999 season, Radebaugh led the ACC in total scoring, goals and assists. He also received a spot on both the ACC and NCAA All-Tournament teams, and was named as the ACC Most Valuable Player.
Radebaugh ended his career as one of the finest Cav lacrosse players of all time. He stands fifth in season goals scored and fourth in points. He also ranks sixth all-time for career goals scored and eighth in points.
Radebaugh replaces Knight, who left the Virginia program for St. Paul's, a prep school in Baltimore that Radebaugh himself once attended.
"I want to thank coach Starsia and [assistant] coach [Chris] Colbeck for giving me the opportunity to stay involved with this special program," Radebaugh said in a press release. "Hopefully, with any luck, we can continue our success in the future"
