Quarles emerges as hoops leader

Heading into this season, two questions loomed over the Virginia women's basketball team: Who will play point guard? Who will lead in the footsteps of graduated captains Lisa Hosac and Renee Robinson?

In both cases, junior guard Telisha Quarles has made herself a large part of the answer.

"It's time for me to step up," Quarles said. "I've learned from Lisa and Renee and Lauren" Swierczek, the third member of last year's senior class. "I can't be sitting back like I did last year because I really didn't have a leadership role. I'm taking on a leadership role and playing the point, so I've got a lot of responsibilities."
