Men's basketball sinks Maryland

If the No. 11 Virginia men's basketball team still had skeptics after its initial in-conference inconsistency, last night's game against ACC rival No. 9 Maryland should have silenced them.

The Cavaliers dissected the Terrapin defense and shot 52.9 percent from the field in an impressive 99-78 victory at University Hall. Virginia (15-4, 4-4 ACC) handed Maryland (14-6, 5-3) its first road loss in five games and reached the crucial .500 mark in ACC play. Six Cavaliers scored double-digit points to make the victory over a tough rival appear easy.

"All our guys did a tremendous job," Virginia coach Pete Gillen said. "We went into the game knowing we had to get out of the gate, be aggressive, and play to win. The guys played exceedingly well."
