VENUES

Although Trax, one of Charlottesville's most well known concert venues, recently closed its doors, students can hear live music at a wide variety of venues ranging from intimate settings to high-capacity music halls.

Starr Hill Music Hall

This medium-sized concert hall is located above the Starr Hill Restaurant and Brewery at 709 Main St. Shawn Mullins and Richard Thompson are among the many musicians who have performed there recently. 977-0017

Outback Lodge

Located at 917 B/C Preston Ave., this venue features weekly regular acts including Buzby, Wisher and Guano Boys. 979-7211

Prism Coffeehouse

This folk-oriented venue located at 214 Rugby Rd. features local, bluegrass and traditional performers.

Tokyo Rose

Located at 2171 Ivy Rd., this small venue features punk performances as well as many other musicians from a wide variety of genres. 295-7673.

Miller's

This legendary Charlottesville venue is where the Dave Matthews Band used to play. The Downtown Mall bar and music venue also frequently features jazz composer and musician John D'earth. Miller's is located at 109 W. Main St. 971-8511

The University’s Orientation and Transition programs are vital to supporting first year and transfer students throughout their entire transition to college. But much of their work goes into planning summer orientation sessions. Funlola Fagbohun, associate director of the first year experience, describes her experience working with OTP and how she strives to create a welcoming environment for first-years during orientation and beyond. Along with her role as associate director, summer Orientation leaders and OTP staff work continually to provide a safe and memorable experience for incoming students.
