Sophomore Virginia swimmers Luke Anderson and Luke Wagner begin competition in the 2001 Goodwill Games todayin Brisbane, Australia. Both swimmers were selected to the USA's team after their performances in the Phillips 66 U.S. National Swimming Championships, held earlier this month in Clovis, Calif.
Anderson was invited to participate after his sixth-place finish in the 100-meter freestyle. He is the 2001 ACC champion in the 100 and 200 free and achieved All-American honors in the 200, 400 and 800 free relays. Wagner, the 2001 ACC rookie of the year, earned his spot on the team by placing third in the 200 backstroke. Wagner was named a first-team All-American after his fifth-place finish in the 100 back at the 2001 NCAA Championships.

Freshman Colleen Barbieri earned ACC player of the week honors after leading the Maryland field hockey team to a pair of season opening 8-0 victories. In her first college game, Barbieri scored two goals against California on Saturday. The next day, Barbieri tallied two goals and an assist against Pacific.
Before joining the Terrapins, Barbieri was named to the 1999 and 2000 All-American high school teams and achieved all-state honors in New York. In 1997, Barbieri helped lead Centereach High School to the Division I Class A state championship. She finished her high school career with 144 goals and 30 assists.
Barbieri is the leading scorer for Maryland with four goals and an assist, for a total of nine points. Maryland continued its success with a 3-0 victory over Stanford on Tuesday, which pushed its record to 3-0.
