Sports in Brief

The Virginia field hockey team not only beat VCU, 2-0, yesterday in Richmond but dominated so completely that the Rams failed to register a single shot on goal.

Virginia senior Jessica Coleman scored both goals to improve her season total to 10. Coleman now ranks second in the nation for scoring.

Both goals were scored on corner plays, the first forced by Coleman only three minutes into the game. The second goal came after senior Mason White broke away and passed to senior Carrie Goodloe, who forced the corner. Coleman connected on the second corner in the last minute of the first half to give the Cavaliers the game-winning 2-0 lead.

The Cavaliers had eight shots on goal in their third shutout of the season. VCU falls to 1-7, while Virginia improves to 5-2 overall.
