On the heels of its victory at N.C. State last week, the No. 11 Virginia women's soccer team tied No. 18 Florida, 1-1, yesterday in Gainesville, Fla. The Gators (3-2-1) took a 1-0 lead in the second half on a shot from the right side by Andi Sellers. Later in the half, Cavalier defender Ashley Meeker set up co-captain Lori Lindsay for a game-tying goal. The game remained tied, 1-1, through two overtimes.

The Cavaliers (3-1-1) will next play host to Liberty in a 5 p.m. matchup at Klockner Stadium. They will then resume ACC competition with a Saturday evening matchup with Clemson.

Volleyball downs ACC foe N.C. State

The Virginia volleyball team earned its first conference win Friday over N.C. State (4-4, 0-1 ACC). Junior middle Simona Kuipers registered 18 kills and nine digs to lead the Cavaliers (5-4, 1-1) to a 3-1 victory.

  • After falling short in the first game, 30-26, Virginia won three consecutive games, 30-19, 30-18 and 30-21.

    The Cavaliers return to action Tuesday when they travel to College Park to take on Maryland in a 7 p.m. matchup.

    Men's tennis aces Navy, St. John's

    The Virginia men's tennis team earned victories over Navy, St. John's at the Navy Classic in Annapolis, Md., on Saturday.

    Virginia swept all its doubles matches and won three singles matches to edge the Midshipmen, 6-5. Against St. John's, Virginia won four singles matches and ended up winning, 4-1, after doubles matches scheduled for Sunday were canceled.
