Florida State dropped 12 spots in the Associated Press college football top 25 poll this week after Saturday's stunning 41-9 loss to North Carolina. The rest of the top 10 held steady with No. 2 Florida notching a solid win over Kentucky and No. 1 Miami and No. 3 Oklahoma off on bye weeks.

Virginia earned 11 votes after its last-second win over Clemson but was unable to crack the top 25. Georgia Tech was the only other ACC team in the top 25. The shuffling this week put them up one spot to ninth even though they did not play this weekend.

    Franks saves the day

Duke football coach Carl Franks pulled a man from his vehicle Friday morning after the man accidentally drove into Falls Lake just outside Raleigh, N.C.

Franks was at the Rolling View Marina at about 8:15 a.m. when he heard an engine rev followed by a splash. He went to find out what happened and found a Jeep partially submerged in the lake. Franks took off his shoes, shirt and watch and headed into the water to discover the driver stuck in the back of the car. Franks pried the hatch of the Jeep open and dragged the man out to safety on the bank.

The man had a history of seizures and believed that he must have experienced one before losing control of the car. He was hospitalized and is expected to recover fully.
