Women's soccer fails at Clemson
The No. 14 Cavalier women's soccer team was defeated by No. 15 Clemson Saturday night, 4-0, at Riggs Field. The defeat gives the Cavaliers their first conference loss of the season and brings them to an overall 4-2-1, 1-1 ACC record.
The loss was frustrating because Virginia out-shot Clemson by a 21-11 margin. Both teams went scoreless in the first half but four second-half goals by Clemson gave the Tigers a convincing victory.
Forwards Sarah Lane and Lindsay Gusick each had five shots for Virginia.
Volleyball falls to 'Noles
The Virginia volleyball team fell to conference competitor Florida State, 3-0, at Tully Gym in Tallahassee, Fla., yesterday. With the loss, Virginia falls to 5-6, 1-3 ACC.
The Seminoles bettered Virginia in hits by an impressive margin. As a team, they hit .392 while the Cavaliers only hit .144. Florida State also beat out Virginia in digs, 45-27.
Senior outside hitter Jenny Harmon added 10 kills and a team-high six digs for Virginia.
Women's cross country finishes sixth in Minnesota
The Virginia women's cross country team earned a sixth place finish in Saturday's Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis. Virginia's Jennifer Owens led the Cavaliers, finishing fifth with a time of 20 minutes, 49.4 seconds. Senior Sarah Folse also finished in the top 25, coming in with a time of 21:33.6. With its sixth place finish, Virginia defeated seven teams ranked in the top 25.
The men's team finished 22nd out of a field of 36 teams.
