The Virginia men's tennis team was in action this past weekend in the 2001 East Coast Championship collegiate tournament held in Norfolk this weekend.

Of the seven Virginia singles players to reach the quarterfinals, Stephen Nolen, Jason Romesburg, Jay Curtis and Mark Montandon advanced to the semifinals in their draws. The doubles teams of Michael Duquette and Stephen Nolan, Jonathan Chou and Dan Lempa, and Gregory Alpert and Tim Snead all advanced to the semifinals of their flights, while the duo of Jay Curtis and Patrick Guarnieri fell in the finals of the C flight.

At the 2001 Brown Invitational held Friday through Sunday, six Virginia women advanced to the quarterfinal rounds of their singles draws while two doubles teams played in the finals.

On their way to the flight B doubles title, Virginia junior Jennifer Tuchband and freshman Dora Bechliwanis defeated teams from Brown, Purdue and Harvard. Tuchband and Bechliwanis also advanced in singles competition to the quarterfinals of the A and B flights, respectively.

Elizabeth Hornberger, Amy O'Donnell and Christine Kim all advanced to the quarterfinals of their flights. Virginia partners Laura James and Hornberger also reached the flight D championship.
