Sports in Brief

The ACC released the Virginia football team's 2002 schedule Friday. The Cavaliers will play 12 regular season games, six in Charlottesville and eight against teams that went to bowl games last season.

Virginia opens its schedule Aug. 31 on the road against Florida State. The Cavaliers then return home the following week to take on South Carolina.

Virginia's other home games include Clemson on Oct. 12, North Carolina on Oct. 19, N.C. State on Nov. 16 and Maryland on Nov. 23.

Virginia will travel to face rival Virginia Tech on Nov. 30.

Teamer takes rookie of the week award
