Colts acquire Dungy as new head coach

Tony Dungy has come to a five-year, $12.5 million deal with the Indianapolis Colts, according to ESPN.com.

A formal announcement was scheduled to take place at a 5 p.m. news conference yesterday. Dungy, who also interviewed with the Carolina Panthers, is expected to strengthen a defense that finished with the worst overall ranking in the NFL.

Dungy will be reunited with offensive coordinator Tom Moore, who directed the top-rated offense in the AFC in 2001. Dungy and Moore excelled together in both Pittsburgh and Minnesota as defensive and offensive coordinators.

The Colts will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing 6-10 season in 2001.
