Track posts several season bests at Blue Heaven
Saturday's Blue Heaven Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. was filled with season bests for the Virginia women's track team. In the triple jump, Naccole Guinn placed third with a jump of 12.46 meters, while Curtrell Frye finished fifth by covering 12.32 meters. Carielle Doe had the fastest 400 meter-dash at Virginia this season at 55.87 seconds, despite finishing fourth. The men also had a good showing, especially in the track events. Scott Kimball and Shay Clark each beat their fastest times of the year, 6.91 seconds and 7.03 seconds, respectively, in the 60-meter dash. In the distance events, Steve Gross ran a mile of four minutes and 15 seconds, Justin Wood ran the 3,000 meters in 8 minutes, 39 seconds, and Andy Filachek placed fourth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15 minutes, 9 seconds, season bests for all three runners.
Women's tennis holds off Thundering Herd in opener

The Virginia women's tennis team got its season off to a good start by defeating Marshall 4-3. Amy O'Donnell and Christine Kim's 9-8 victory over Marshall's Ashley Kroh and Lille Nzudic at No. 3 doubles cliched the doubles point for the Cavaliers. It was Jennifer Tuchband's singles victory over the Thunering Herd's Anna Mitina at No. 2 that clinched the victory for Virginia. Freshmen twins Dora and Marta Bechliwanis also came up big in their first matches of the spring season, winning both at No. 2 doubles over Jessica Johnson and Danielle Hock and in their singles matches against Nzudic and Hock, respectively. -compiled by Ehren Foley
