Three Cavaliers selected in NFL Draft
The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Virginia tight end Chris Luzar in the fourth round of the NFL draft with the 118th pick overall. The biggest tight end available, Luzar was the ninth selected and should be the third-string tight end behind starter Kyle Brady and newly acquired Pete Mitchell.
Two more Cavaliers went in the seventh round. Defensive tackle Monsanto Pope was the 231st overall selection by the Denver Broncos. Injured running back Antwoine Womack, an All-ACC runner his junior year, went six picks later to the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots. Womack will not be able to play until 2003 after tearing his ACL in the January Gridiron Classic, but he worked hard this past year to rehab his ankle after he was forced to undergo surgery this past September.
