Yancey reaches PGA Tour Final Stage
Former Virginia golfer Cameron Yancey has qualified for the PGA Tour's Final Stage, the last step on the way towards qualifying for the tour.
Yancey has completed the first two events in the PGA Tour Qualifying "School," which spans two months and three tournaments. It is considered the toughest test in golf.
The Final Stage is set for Dec. 4-9 at the PGA West Stadium Course and Nicklaus Tournament Course in La Quinta, Calif. Yancey qualified by finishing in a tie for eighth last week at the PGA Tour Qualifying Second Stage in Kingwood, Texas. He shot a 5-under 283 (69-71-73-70) to make the cut of 285.
Six former Virginia golfers entered the PGA Tour Qualifier this fall. James Driscoll (1997-2000), Steve Marino (1999-2002), Tom McKnight (1973-75) and Brian Quackenbush were eliminated after the first stage. Simon Cooke (1992-95), the 1996 ACC Player of the Year, missed the cut at the second stage.
