No. 20 Auburn sweeps Virginia

The Cavalier baseball team traveled to Auburn only to meet defeat in each of the three games in their weekend series. Virginia (0-3) opened their season with a bang, jumping out to a 10-1 lead after three and a half innings of the first game of the series, but the Tigers (6-1) battled back to win the game 14-13. The next two games were lower-scoring affairs, with the Cavaliers falling 5-3 in the second contest and 7-5 in a game three twice interrupted by rain delays.

Virginia softball 3-0 in soggy weekend

The Cavaliers won three consecutive games at the rain-shortened Triangle Classic in Raleigh, NC. Junior pitcher Joanna Barstad earned the team's first win of the season as the squad defeated UNC-Wilmington 10-4. Freshman pitcher Erin Horn recorded Virginia's second win, a 13-4 victory over Campbell, in her first collegiate start. Horn continued to roll as she led the Cavaliers over Boston University, 10-9, in the weekend's third game. The last round-robin game and bracket play were cancelled due to inclement weather, but not before senior third baseman Ruby Rojas tied the school record for single game home runs, slamming two in the victory over Boston.

Women's basketball scores ACC road win

Virginia defeated Georgia Tech Sunday, 56-54, to earn their first conference victory on the road this season. The Cavaliers took the lead early and never looked back, at one time holding a 14 point advantage. The Yellow Jackets made a run late in the second half, but could not regain the lead as sophomore guard Cherrise Graham scored 8 of Virginia's 13 points. Georgia Tech threatened with a three-point basket that brought the score to 55-54 with half a second to play. Junior guard Anna Prillaman sealed the victory for the Cavaliers with a crucial free throw with 0:00.5 seconds left on the clock
