More than one thousand students, faculty, staff and community members gathered on the Lawn at noon Friday to urge the University to reject the proposed Trump administration’s “Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education.”

Brown University became the second of nine universities to reject the Trump administration’s “Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education” Wednesday, following the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s similar decision last week.
Lo said his central priority is preparing the University’s libraries for the rapid changes AI will bring, likening the technology to the internet’s arrival decades ago.
While the field storm went viral online, some students said that the injuries were not worth the rush.
Both Clemons Library and Shannon Library function as central study spaces on Grounds, yet neither have late-night hours this semester.
As of Aug. 26, the University has lost $73.6 million in terminated grants.
This year, Housing and Residence Life has eliminated diversity, equity and inclusion and multicultural training for resident advisors, according to anonymous resident staff.
Participants in the rally, who included faculty and students from all years, held up homemade signs that showed dissatisfaction with recent University events, such as Ryan's resignation and rising political influence over University affairs.
During Jim Ryan’s tenure as University president, he pledged to improve the University’s relationship with Charlottesville and Albemarle County. At the end of his tenure, many of those promises remain unfulfilled.
