The Virginia men's swimming and diving team captured their fifth consecutive conference championship last weekend, honoring their storied tradition and setting the stage for the future of the program. The Cavaliers took the lead on the first day of competition and never looked back, earning the ACC title in Koury Natatorium, home to the North Carolina Tarheels and the same pool where the women's squad won their conference crown just a week earlier.
"I think it was a great motivator for the guys to know that the girls just won the meet, and that the whole U.Va. as one team is succeeding at winning ACCs," senior swimmer Dan DeMarco said.
Solidarity between the men's and women's teams is only one reason why the Virginia swimming program possesses two simultaneous championships. Yet the results of such a milestone are many, including garnering the attention of top athletes who will build on this year's success.
