Harper to leave basketball team

Virginia men's basketball coach Pete Gillen announced yesterday that sophomore reserve guard Jermaine Harper will be leaving the Virginia basketball program and transferring to another school.

Harper is the second sophomore guard to depart from the team. The Cavaliers' starting point guard, Keith Jenifer, asked for his release from the team in March.

Both guards served multiple-game suspensions during the season. Harper missed five games in December after a DUI arrest, and Jenifer was suspended indefinitely after an assault and battery charge was brought up against him.

Harper played in 27 games this season, averaging 3.9 points and 1.4 rebounds in 13.4 minutes.
