Cavaliers tie Michigan State in Friday's exhibition game

The Virginia women's soccer team ended its preseason trip to Michigan with a 1-0-1 record for the weekend. The No. 11 Cavaliers defeated Oakland earlier in the week by a 9-1 margin, but failed to top Michigan on Friday.

While the Cavaliers dominated in terms of scoring opportunities, out-shooting the Spartans 27-3, they only managed to find the net once with MSU's Stacy Heller making 13 saves.Between Heller's solid performance in goal and the Spartan's strong defensive efforts, that one goal was hard to come by.

The Cavalier's sophomore midfielder Kelly Hammond finally put Virginia on the board when she scored off of an assist from freshmen Shannon Foley in the 74th minute of play.

Virginia's lead was short-lived as the Spartan's managed to tally a goal of their own just three minutes later when MSU's Linsey Laskowski converted a cross from Emily Weigand.

The Cavaliers return to Charlottesville to face West Virginia on Saturday Aug. 30.
