Four Virginia players on trophy watch list

Senior defender Brett Hughes, senior goalie Tillman Johnson and junior attack men John Christmas and Joe Yevoli were placed on the "Watch List" for lacrosse's prestigious Tewaaraton Trophy yesterday, giving Virginia the lead in number of early candidates.

Hughes is considered among the nation's best defenders.

Johnson is the reigning USILA Player of the Year and Goalie of the Year.

Last year Christmas led the team in goals with 36. He was named second-team All-American and an All-ACC pick for the second time.

Yevoli was 2002's ACC Rookie of the Year after leading the conference with 40 goals.

The award will be presented to winners and finalists June 3.
