Freshman soccer standout Ryan Burke was recently named to Soccer America's 2003 Freshman All-American Team.
As goalkeeper, Burke recorded a 1.12 goals-against-average while appearing in 16 matches, 15 of which he started. He earned 1,443 minutes of playing time, allowing just 18 goals all season. Burke also tallied four shutouts, all coming in the postseason, two during the NCAA Tournament and two during the ACC Tournament. He led the Cavaliers in saves with 50.
With Burke guarding the net, the Cavaliers posted a 7-7-2 record and captured the ACC Championship; Virginia was 11-10-2 overall. His .735 saves percentage also garnered him an appearance on College Soccer News' 2003 All-Freshman team as a second team member. Burke was named MVP of the last season's ACC All-Tournament Team.
