Groh adds three assistants

Head football coach Al Groh announced the addition of three members to his 2004 staff yesterday.

John Garrett, a former NFL wide receiver, will become the Cavalier's new wide receiver coach. Since his playing days, Garrett has spent the past 10 years in a myriad of assistant coaching positions for the Arizona Cardinals, Cinncinnati Bengals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

All-time Virginia leader in tackles Anthony Poindexter also was added to Groh's staff as the new running back coach. After being drafted in the seventh round of the 1999 NFL draft, Poindexter spent two seasons with the Baltimore Ravens and one season with the Cleveland Browns before becoming a coach.

The last of the new additions is current Rutgers recruiting coordinator and linebacker coach Mark D'Onofrio. D'Onofrio will be reunited with his former teammate and roommate at Penn State, Virginia defensive coordinator Al Golden.
