Following his 11-7 decision over Oklahoma's Teyon Ware last weekend, Moore improved his overall record to 35-0 and leapfrogged his opponent in the rankings to become the first No. 1 ranked wrestler in Virginia history.
Competing in the 141-pound weight class, Moore jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with a takedown before Ware tied up the match with a reversal. The battle continued back and forth with Moore regaining the lead 6-5 with less than one minute left in the match. Seemingly on his way to a regulation win, Moore was penalized one point for stalling with 10 seconds to go, sending the match into overtime.
Following the first overtime period that featured no scoring, Moore dominated the second overtime 5-1, propelling himself to an 11-7 victory and a spot atop the national polls.
With a perfect record thus far, Moore has taken first place in all seven competitions he has entered this season. Meanwhile, his 25 falls destroy the previous Virginia season record of 11 and rank him third all-time only midway through his first season as a Cavalier.
