Virginia Men's Golf Places 8th at Rice Invitational

Led by sophomore Brad Tilley and freshman Daniel McGurk, the Cavaliers finished eighth out of 14 teams at the Rice Intercollegiate Invitational yesterday.

Virginia's combined score of 916 placed them 21 strokes behind first-place UT-San Antonio's score of 895. Following UT-San Antonio was Denver and Notre Dame with scores of 900.

In addition to Tilley and McGurk's 17th place scores of 227(+11), senior Jeremy Luce tied for 42nd with a 233(+17) while sophomore Eamonn McLoughlin tied for 48th with a 234(+18). Junior Kevin O'Connell rounded out the Cavaliers' top five with a score of 237(+21), good for 56th place.

Men's golf next competes Feb. 22-24 in Rio Mar, Puerto Rico at the Puerto Rico Classic. They will then return to the states to participate in the Coastal Carolina Invitational in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, March 8-9.
