Virginia's Amy Appelt was named ACC women's lacrosse Player of the Week following her six-goal performance in the Cavaliers' 14-10 season opening win over Vanderbilt Sunday. This is the third consecutive season Appelt has registered six goals in one game.

Appelt scored her first goal early in the first half to give Virginia a 2-1 lead. In the second half, she exploded for four goals in a span of 10:09 to break open what was a close game and extend the Cavaliers' lead to 11-5. She added her final goal late in the game for a 13-9 Virginia lead.

The six goals tied a career high for Appelt and moved her up to eighth all-time in career goals scored at Virginia with 117, and sixth all-time in points scored with 163. Former teammate Lauren Aumiller holds the school record with 217.
