Virginia women's tennis falls to Duke at home

The No. 65 Cavaliers dropped a 6-1 match to No. 3 Duke yesterday afternoon at the Boar's Head Sports Club. The loss was the fifth for Virginia against ACC opponents on the season, leaving them winless in the conference and 9-10 overall.

The Blue Devils took an early lead by winning all three doubles matches, despite a near upset by the top Cavalier team of Kristen James and Mariko Fritz-Krockow against fourth-ranked Amanda Johnson and Tory Zawacki of Duke.

Keeping up their pace heading into the singles matches, the Blue Devils won the first five contests. In the final singles contest, however, James pulled off an upset of Duke's No. 89 Jennifer Zika to end the afternoon.
